The Village
Bowmore is the capital of the island situated at its heart, on the shores of beautiful Lochindaal and is the perfect base to enjoy all the island has to offer. It is a friendly village and will appeal to families, couples or friends alike. The main supermarket is situated here plus other food and gift shops. There are 3 hotels in the village, offering a range of atmospheres and all serving food.
Nia Roo is ideally situated opposite the world renowned Bowmore Distillery and visitors centre. It is also moments away from the pebbled beach and picturesque fishing harbour. Other attractions in the village include the MacTaggart Leisure Centre (2 minutes walk) and the stunning Bowmore Round Church.
The Island
The Isle of Islay is known as the 'Queen of the Hebrides' it is relatively small (approx 25 miles long and 20 miles wide) allowing visitors to easily explore. It is a haven for wildlife lovers and home the large RSPB Gruinart reserve. Aside from the many bird species, you can also expect to see seals, deer and otters to name a few.
There are many beautiful and secluded beaches offering the opportunity of lovely walks and total relaxation. Many activities are on offer, including horse riding, kayaking, cycling, fishing, and stalking. Islay is home to the famous Machrie Golf Links course if golf is your thing.
